Porter Advisory is pleased to present the work of Harlem based French and Vietnamese artist Capucine Bourcart in Crossing the Line at The Yard: City Hall Park, 116 Nassau Street. There will be an opening reception with the artist on October 4, 2018 from 6 - 8 PM.

Crossing the Line brings together Bourcart’s work from 6 series: “Haute Couture”, “Wall Cuttings”, “Urban Utopia”, “Interruption”, “With a Touch Of” and “Nid-de-Poule”. Although Bourcart’s work has similarities in color and technique, each series is unique in its theme and representation. In the series “Nid-de-Poule”, having a double meaning in French, “hen’s nest” and “pothole”, the artist was pregnant and found herself looking down at her feet more often and simultaneously engaging more with the painted pavements of New York City. The sculptural round shapes in this series reflect these double meanings and her personal reflections of the time: the nest, the beauty and danger of carrying a new life and the process of living and working as an artist. In her series “Wall Cuttings”, Bourcart cut up detail shots of walls in Manhattan that she took from 2008 - 2012 and assembled them into abstract collages creating fresh rhythms and harmonies. Continuing in her other four series Bourcart looks at the city’s detachment in “Haute Couture”, fantastical emptiness in “Urban Utopia”, the purity of color in “With a Touch Of” and the poetry of lines in “Interruption”.

“By focusing on intimate detail and the specific character of a chosen subject, I question and probe its beauty in order to reveal, reconsider, or condemn its clichés” says Capucine Bourcart about her work. This could not be more true than in her solo presentation of Crossing the Line with a cross-section of the various series of works creating a unique perception of New York, of color and of life.

Crossing the Lines by Capucine Bourcart will be on view through January 2019.
