Porter Advisory is pleased to present Translucent Grey, a solo presentation of works by Ai Campbell from March 22, 2018 through July 13, 2018 at The Yard: Gowanus.  An opening reception with the artist will be held on Thursday, March 22 from 6 - 8 PM.

Continuing to support the work of Gowanus based artists, Jessica L. Porter has brought together Ai Campbell’s monochromatic organic natural shapes and forms to The Yard’s Gowanus warehouse style workspace. Campbell features forms such as water streams on a faded wall, layered leaves on a tree or her own tangled hair, exploring how their virgin elements can interact. “I think the individually lifeless elements start to breathe in the company of other types”, says Campbell about her work.  “My work will continue to explore the beauty and power of life’s intricate organic forms and I am excited to see the evolution”.

Campbell’s work amplifies the positive negative space through the contrast of monochromatic colors. By eliminating color the object’s elements become more defined creating paradoxically complex detailed paintings and drawings that arrest the imagination of the audience. The work of Ai Campbell celebrates the compelling nature of art’s most basic elements, using the black and white to amplify positive negative spaces through the contrast.  Campbell is an expert at engaging the most basic elements of life to build or extract the most complex. Her work is the perfect compliment to the open light filled workspace of The Yard Gowanus.
